Who is the 2018 Balmoral Show’s healthiest person? That’s a question Randox Health is posing at this year’s event, as it announces details of an interactive challenge ahead of this week’s event.
Anyone over the age of 16 can take part by visiting the Randox Health stand and taking part in the True Age Challenge. It involves a Body Composition Analysis (BCA) machine which assesses 25 different areas of your body including the ratio of muscle to fat, bone density, hidden visceral fat and cellular hydration levels.
But it’s the reveal of a person’s ‘true’ or metabolic age that can really leave people amazed!
The #TrueAgeChallenge winner will receive a FitBit Blaze each day of the Balmoral Show. They will either be the single person with the greatest difference between their body age and ‘true’ age as determined by the BCA, or if there are multiple people with the same age difference, they will be entered into a draw.

Randox partners with Liverpool Guild of Students for their annual awards ceremony
Randox were proud to sponsor four awards at the Liverpool Guild of Students Awards 2018 which took place on Friday 27th April in the city’s Mountford Hall. Now in its tenth year, the prestigious occasion recognises individuals or groups who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to help fellow students and the wider community while improving student experience at the University of Liverpool.
The ceremony was attended by 300 students nominated from Liverpool Guild of Student’s 22,000 student member body, along with key university staff members. Liverpool University is privileged to enjoy such a vibrant and active student culture in the city which made for tough competition in each of the awards categories.
The categories sponsored by Randox were in the Development category block;
Campaign of the Year – the Liverpool University Marine Biology Oceanography and Ecology Society won this award after they developed a campaign to reduce plastic impact on-campus as well as helping the general public to become more knowledgeable on the issue.
The Development Award – Congratulations to the Liverpool Paediatric Society who received this award. The society has fully committed to providing high quality academic, skills based sessions for their members. As well as fundraising for nominated charities throughout the year, they also provide excellent opportunities for members to learn new skills to help them both in their studies and future careers.
The Innovation Award – the National Hindu Students’ Forum Liverpool won the award for innovation after they built on the success of their previous committee members and raised over £400 for MIND by transforming a once small-scale event, Asha, into a large-scale event with stalls, raffles, performances and a three course meal.
The Challenge Award – the Feminist Society at the University of Liverpool has promoted inclusivity and broadened the reach of the Guild outside of the university campus. They have hosted a wide variety of fundraisers and club nights not only to raise funds for charities but also to educate attendees on sexual violence.

Dungloe to host Randox Health Grand National Celebration Event
In celebration of this year’s Randox Health Grand National, the sponsors of the world’s greatest race are hosting a Family Fun Day in Dungloe, Donegal on Saturday 14th April.
Held at Randox Teoranta, the world-leading life sciences, engineering and manufacturing facility, the event will mark how far the company has come as it takes to the world stage for the Randox Health Grand National, and recognise the support the company has received from the local community since its establishment in Dungloe in 2008.

Dr Peter FitzGerald named as Irish Times Business Person of the Month
Randox Laboratories are pleased to announce that Managing Director Dr Peter FitzGerald has been named as the Irish Times’ Business Person of the Month for February 2018.
The award follows an announcement from Randox that the company will be investing £50m into three new Centres of Excellence in Northern Ireland, which will deliver cutting-edge technologies to diagnose conditions like cancer, heart conditions and infectious diseases.
At the time of the announcement, Dr FitzGerald commented;
“Enabling earlier and more accurate diagnosis, to identify those at the earliest stages of illness, ideally before the onset of any symptoms, is a game-changer. Through early intervention we can restrict the development of chronic conditions and improve people’s lives. Our view of the future is one where people are empowered through earlier diagnosis to stay healthier for longer, and where healthcare systems are freed to deliver quality services to patients. Our announcement today demonstrates our continuing commitment in this field.”
Scientists from the Antrim-headquartered group will work collaboratively with researchers and scientists from both Queen’s University and Ulster University in the new centres, which were launched at the new Randox Science Park by Sir John Bell.

Randox Teoranta announce fourth year of WAAR sponsorship
Randox are proud to announce that Randox Teoranta, for the fourth year running, is the main sponsor for WAAR 2018, an event which places mental wellbeing at its core. Launched at the weekend, on Friday 23rd February 2018, this year’s Wild Atlantic Adventure Race promises to deliver an incredible display of stamina, strength and perseverance as outdoor pursuit enthusiasts once again brave the elements to complete the demanding 55.5km course or 39km sprint.
The full Wild Atlantic Adventure Race (WAAR) features a 10km run, 42.5km cycle, 2km hike and 1km kayak, starting and finishing at CLG Naomh Muire, The Banks, Mullaghderg, Co. Donegal on Saturday 12th May 2018. Set along one of the most beautiful natural coastlines in the world, the west coast will once again play host to one of the most challenging yet enjoyable races, featuring both novice and elite individuals, as well as several relay teams.
This year, fundraising efforts will be donated to CLG Naomh Muire. Launching the event was best-selling author and TV personality Majella O’Donnell who overcame breast cancer in 2013.

Tipperary and married to Irish country music legend Daniel O’Donnell, Majella became iconic in her own right when she shaved her head live on The Late Late Show in 2013, raising €600,000 for The Irish Cancer Society. Majella also documented her life story in her book ‘It’s All in the Head.’ The book’s moving tale quickly became a number one Irish best-seller and 2014 Irish Book Award-winner.
Majella’s own force of character and deep-seated determination makes her a worthy representative to launch WAAR 2018, an endurance race that will test the physical and mental stamina of participants to their limits.

Ā£50m Randox Centres of Excellence launched in Northern Ireland
A record £50 million investment which will deliver cutting-edge technologies to diagnose conditions like cancer, heart conditions and infectious diseases has been announced by Northern Ireland diagnostics company Randox Laboratories and Invest Northern Ireland.
This major project involves the establishment of three Centres of Excellence, enabling Randox R&D scientists to work collaboratively with colleagues from Queen’s University Belfast and Ulster University. The centres are being officially launched today at the Randox Science Park. The ceremony will include a keynote address from Sir John Bell, who chaired the UK Government’s Life Sciences Industrial Strategy Board.
Advanced diagnostics have been identified as key to delivering sustainable improvement to healthcare systems struggling to cope with increasing levels of chronic and preventable conditions. Having been focused in this field for over 36 years, Randox has a successful track record of developing new and innovative tests – examples include assessing those at risk of Alzheimer’s disease and genetic cardiac conditions, to promote and enable preventive treatment, and a new clinically-approved test to diagnose prediabetes.

The Centres of Excellence will focus respectively on clinical diagnostics, engineering for biosciences and quality control. The project, which will strengthen collaborative partnerships between Randox, Queen’s University Belfast and Ulster University, will accelerate the development of new technologies and drive healthcare improvements regionally, nationally and across the globe.
Of the £23m of support offered by Invest NI, £5m will go toward research projects at Ulster University and Queen’s University Belfast.

Randox Strengthening Ties Between Northern Ireland and China
Off the back of its key involvement in this month’s prestigious China Summit held in Belfast, global diagnostics company Randox Laboratories has this week taken a delegation of representatives to China to reach out to existing and potential business partners.
Having exported its diagnostic products to China for over 25 years, the healthcare firm cites the country as one of its most important markets, and regularly hosts conferences and training events in the capital city for its vast distributor network.
Earlier this year, following 18 months of extensive market research and infrastructural developments, Randox launched a new market expansion initiative in China to help strengthen business relationships and increase exports – a programme which Global Sales Manager Susan Hammond credits with having accelerated demand for Randox products.

Randox Health Grand National Trophy 2018 tour comes to schools across Northern Ireland
Randox Health are today pleased to announce that in early March, the 2018 Randox Health Grand National Trophy will be coming to schools across Northern Ireland. This is the second year of the trophy tour, to mark Randox Health’s sponsorship of the world-renowned steeplechase.
At Randox, our ambition is to continually improve people’s health around the world. That is why we took on the sponsorship of this famous event, to spread our message about the importance of preventive healthcare. As the first healthcare company to be involved with the sport, we are credited with bringing a very positive era to it.
This year we are offering a number of schools in Northern Ireland the opportunity to take part in a two – three-hour trophy-making masterclass, with the designer of both the 2017 and 2018 trophies – the silversmith Shannon O’Neill.
Shannon will guide a class of students through the process of designing and constructing a trophy, albeit in less-rare materials than the ones used in the actual trophy! We will again be able to bring the trophy to the schools for pupils to see and hopefully be inspired.
We will provide all necessary equipment, and aim for each pupil to have a paper-version of their trophy to take home. The pupils will have the chance to ask Shannon questions about working on the trophy and find out about the skills involved in being a silversmith.
In order to ensure the schools who would most welcome this unique opportunity can participate, please contact us by the 26th January 2018 to take part in our schools tour with the Randox Health Grand National Trophy 2018. The tour will take place over three days, with final dates being agreed shortly; we hope to be able to include every school that is interested!
