Randox extends Grand National Festival Sponsorship for a further five years

22 December 2020: Randox extends Grand National Festival Sponsorship for a further five years

Randox has reached agreement with The Jockey Club for a five-year extension to its sponsorship of the world’s greatest steeplechase, the Grand National, and the three-day Grand National Festival staged at Aintree Racecourse.

The new agreement will run from 2022-2026, following on from the existing five-year deal which runs until next year. This ten-year sponsorship will be the second-longest partnership in the history of the Grand National.

As well as retaining headline naming rights for the three-day Grand National Festival, Randox will continue to sponsor all three races over the iconic Grand National fences; the Randox Foxhunters Chase on Liverpool’s NHS Day, the Randox Topham Chase on Ladies Day, and the iconic Randox Grand National on Grand National Day itself.

As the largest healthcare diagnostics company from the UK and Ireland, Randox undertakes research, development, manufacture and distribution of innovative laboratory tests and analysers. In 2019 Randox manufactured more than 4 billion tests and was active in 145 countries. The company employs more than 2,000 staff, including more than 450 research scientists and engineers, with key facilities located in Co Antrim and Co Donegal.

Randox focuses on the provision of comprehensive, accurate and timely testing in order to identify risk to health, improve clinical diagnoses and promote preventative healthcare; aiming to achieve better healthcare outcomes whilst reducing the burden on clinical services.

In early 2020 Randox recognised the threat from COVID-19 and, based on almost 40 years of diagnostic experience, quickly developed a test to accurately identify the virus. Testing at scale commenced within weeks to support both the UK’s National Testing Programme and private clients.

In March 2020, the company was processing 150 COVID-19 tests a day, but through investment and the enormous effort of its staff, Randox has been able to boost its laboratory testing capacity to process 90,000 COVID-19 samples per day for the UK Government’s National COVID-19 Testing Programme, making it the most productive laboratory in the UK and Ireland, and amongst the largest in Europe. It anticipates this climbing to 100,000 daily tests.

 Dr. Peter FitzGerald CBE, Founder and Managing Director of Randox, said:

“We have thoroughly enjoyed working with The Jockey Club’s team at Aintree and look forward to another successful five years, when we are once again able to come together to celebrate the Randox Grand National.”

“This terrible pandemic has increased understanding of the importance of diagnostics and testing across our society. As a company founded with the ultimate aim of saving lives, we will work hard to convert that better understanding into the improvement of people’s health in the future.”

Noting how the Grand National will now be known as the Randox Grand National from 2021 with ‘Health’ being removed from the name, Dr. FitzGerald, adds:

“2020 has been a year of massive change and Randox has been at the forefront of countering the greatest pandemic to sweep these islands in 100 years. As a result, we are comfortable that our core company name is now synonymous with ‘health’ so are very happy to combine with Aintree to rebrand the world’s greatest steeplechase as, more succinctly, ‘the Randox Grand National’.

“We are excited for this new era of our partnership, of horse racing, and of society – in which COVID has taught us to appreciate the important things in life – our friends, our family, and our health. We very much look forward to the next five years.”

With around 9.5 million people tuning in each year in the UK through broadcast partners ITV, The Randox Grand National attracts one of the largest live TV audiences in sport. In 2017, ITV won a BAFTA for their exceptional coverage of the world’s greatest steeplechase. Worldwide the event attracts an estimated television audience of around 600 million.

Randox also continues as the Official Healthcare Partner of The Jockey Club. Founded in 1750 and today British Racing’s largest commercial group, The Jockey Club runs many of the sport’s most iconic assets which, as well as The Randox Grand National Festival, include the The Festival™ at Cheltenham, The Derby Festival at Epsom Downs and the National Stud, with all profits going back into the sport thanks to being a company incorporated by Royal Charter.

Dickon White, North West Regional Director for Jockey Club Racecourses, who runs Aintree, said:

“I am delighted that Randox has agreed to extend their sponsorship for the Grand National Festival for a further five years. It’s been a fantastic partnership over the past few years and we’ve been extremely impressed with their operation as well as their dedication to one of sports’ most iconic events.

“At a time when we are facing massive challenges in British racing, it is a tremendous boost to The Jockey Club, and a huge endorsement to the Grand National itself, that a new multi-year deal has been agreed with Randox.”

“The Randox Grand National continues to go from strength to strength and we look forward to working closely with Dr FitzGerald and his talented and committed team in the coming years.”

Downpatrick announce Randox as new sponsor of Ulster National

News       About Us       Randox Health

29 January 2020

Randox Ulster National, Sunday March 22, Downpatrick Racecourse

Randox has today been announced as the sponsor of the Ulster National at Downpatrick Racecourse for the next five years.

Downpatrick Racecourse, winner of the ‘Sports Venue of the Year’ in both 2018 and 2019 at the Northern Ireland Hospitality Awards, hosts the €50,000 Randox Ulster National, on Sunday March 22, their flagship race day.

Randox, a global innovative healthcare diagnostics company, based in Crumlin, County Antrim, was founded in 1982 by medical scientist and keen horseman Dr Peter FitzGerald. The five-year sponsorship of the Ulster National sees Randox expand a racing sponsorship portfolio which includes the Randox Health Grand National at Aintree, and title sponsorship of the entire three-day Randox Health Grand National Festival at the Liverpool racecourse.

The Randox Ulster National is one of the most historic races on the racing calendar. Run over three miles and four furlongs, the race was first run in 1939 and has a long and illustrious history.

Caughoo won the 1945 and 1946 Ulster National before winning the 1947 Aintree Grand National for jockey Eddie Dempsey and Dublin-based trainer, Herbert McDowell. Laffy, owned by HRH Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, won the Ulster National in 1962 and Pineau De Re also won Downpatrick’s centre piece jumps race in 2013 and subsequently went on to win the Aintree Grand National the next season (2014).

Dr Peter FitzGerald, Randox Managing Director, commented;

“This is an incredibly exciting time to be partnering with Downpatrick Racecourse to add the Randox Ulster National to our racing portfolio. Racing is a sport everyone can enjoy, from all different walks of life, and a partnership with Downpatrick offers us a fantastic opportunity to share our message of preventative health with a wide and engaged audience. We look forward to the first year of the Randox Ulster National, to show our commitment to this wonderful sport and to encourage people to take control of their health and wellbeing with a Randox Health Check.”

Peter Stewart, Downpatrick Racecourse Chairman, said:

“We are really excited to partner with such a respected global brand as Randox for our most prestigious race meeting and look forward to working closely together to create a wonderful race day for our customers and achieve our shared objectives.

 “The Randox partnership will ensure we continue to attract high calibre horses for the Randox Ulster National and further endorse its important position on the racing calendar.”

WAAR 2020 heading for a sell out as Randox Teoranta confirm sixth year of sponsorship

News       About Us       We Are Randox

25 January 2020

Randox Teoranta sponsor WAAR 2020

WAAR 2020 heading for a sell out with Randox Teoranta as sponsor

Entries for the 2020 Wild Atlantic Adventure Race (WAAR) have already exceeded the total number of 2019 participants, the organisers confirmed on Friday 24th January at an event to launch the competition.

The race on 9th May, which will once again be sponsored by Randox Teoranta, already has close to 700 entrants, including Nikki Bradley who took part in the WAAR challenge in 2016 and completed the hike section as part of a team of four.

This year Nikki is challenging herself to tackle the WAAR course on her own, where she will run/walk 5km on crutches, cycle 33km of the Wild Atlantic Way and kayak 1km on the Mullaghdearg Lake, before crossing the finish line to receive the highly sought after WAARior medal.

Many athletes and both past and future WAAR participants attended the launch where a number of speakers addressed the crowd, including Irish multi-sport adventure racer Shaun Stewart who launched the 2020 event. Mr Stewart has won the event in the past two years and is looking forward to the challenge once again in May.

Speaking at the event, WAAR organiser and spokesperson Gavin Ó Dónaill commented;

“Already at this early stage in the year we have close to 700 entries for the race, representing an increase of approximately 350 on the same date last year. In May 2019, for the race itself, we had over 600 participants, along with 200 volunteers, so in January 2020 we have already surpassed the total number of 2019 participants.

“As well as Nikki Bradley, Trailblazer Mary Nolan Hickey, who ran the entire coast of Ireland in 2018, cycled around it the following year as a fundraiser for the RNLI, and is the only woman to have run every single Dublin City Marathon since its inception in 1980, is also embarking on the WAAR 2020 adventure.

“The incredible caliber of athletes the event attracts, coupled with the much-appreciated support of global healthcare company Randox, is testament to WAAR’s status as one of the biggest annual sporting events in the North West, and we are looking forward to another sell-out year.”

Dr. Ciaran Richardson, Head of Research & Development at Randox Teoranta, said:

“It is, as always, our honour to partner with the Wild Atlantic Adventure Race here in Donegal. The ethos of the race – of physical and mental health, of camaraderie and of community – is one we share at Randox Teoranta.

 “From our biohub in Dungloe in the heart of Donegal, our revolutionary diagnostic technologies for conditions including Alzheimer’s, stroke, kidney disease and gastrointestinal disorders, make a real difference to global healthcare and we will continue this vital work long in to the future.

 “Like WAAR, Randox Teoranta has become an integral part of the landscape in Donegal and we are delighted to bring the thrilling Wild Atlantic Adventure Race once again to Donegal in 2020.”

WAAR 2020, as in 2019, will be included as a round of the National Adventure Series, a collection of adventure races across the country from which competitors can earn points to become the all-Ireland Adventure Race Champion 2019. The full WAAR route, which features a 10km run, 42.5km cycle, 2km hike and 1km kayak, starting and finishing at C.L.G. Naomh Muire in Mullaghderg, was described by organisers of the National Adventure Series as “one of the best organised events” in which they had ever taken part, and “a fantastic addition to the National Series Calendar…in one of the most picturesque courses in the country.”

Anyone interested in taking part in the WAAR can visit the website at www.waar.ie. The event is open to anyone who is 16 or over on the 9th May 2020. If you would like to help out on the day of the event please send your name and contact number to info@waar.ie.

Randox Potato Festival will celebrate the Mighty Spud at the Giant’s Causeway

Randox Northern Ireland Potato Festival

Randox Potato Festival will celebrate the Mighty Spud at the Giant’s Causeway

Northern Ireland’s favourite potato-themed festival is back, bigger and better than ever, on Saturday 5th October 2019, boosted once more by the continued partnership with headline sponsor Randox.

Set against the backdrop of the world-famous Giant’s Causeway, the Randox Northern Ireland Potato Festival is a heady mix of family fun, a celebration of world-renowned potato breeder John Clarke, and a chance to sample the delights of the agri-food industry which thrives in the Causeway Coast & Glens.

Now in its sixth year, the line-up for the free event, which runs from 10am – 5pm in the grounds of the Causeway Hotel, boasts a packed programme of activities and attractions for all ages, including the Naturally North Coast and Glens Artisan Market and Food NI Cookery Theatre.

Wendy Gallagher, Causeway Coast Foodie Tours and Festival Committee Secretary, said;

“We’re delighted to welcome back the ever-popular Food NI Cookery Theatre to the Randox Northern Ireland Potato Festival, which will feature a selection of talented homegrown chefs including Trudy Brolly of Ocho Tapas Restaurant in Portrush, and Niall McGinn of Dundarave Estate in Bushmills.

“The Potato Festival will also play host to the Naturally North Coast and Glens Artisan Market, with a popular collection of award-winning local artisan food, drink, and hand-made arts and crafts.

“And for potato enthusiasts there will be a series of specialist talks on a range of topics including ‘How to breed your own potatoes’ and an exhibition of all John Clarke’s varieties.”

Joining the Randox Northern Ireland Potato Festival is a live radio show from Q Radio, which is adding its Broadcast Bus to the eclectic mix of activities on offer, including bouncy castles, a children’s animal farm, The Mighty Spud, and Cutting Edge Helicopters, who will be back in the air again offering spectacular helicopter sightseeing flights (fee applies).*

On the eve of Festival Day a ticketed ‘Super Spud Tour’ to celebrate the area’s unique potato breeding and growing heritage will be held along the beautiful Causeway Coastal Route, and will include a potato producer tour, themed lunch and an opportunity to enjoy a delicious cocktail featuring Ireland’s first potato-distilled vodka.

And headline sponsor Randox will be inviting visitors to the event to step onboard its Mobile Health Clinic, a bespoke Mercedes Benz vehicle which has taken the company’s revolutionary ‘health MOTs’ on the road.

Randox Founder and Managing Director, Dr. Peter FitzGerald, said;

“The sponsorship of the Randox Northern Ireland Potato Festival means a great deal to Randox and we are delighted to be able to bring our Mobile Health Clinic to an event which is so well-known in the area, attracts an impressive number of visitors, from both near and far, and has such a dedicated and enthusiastic committee.

“Just like the festival committee, we at Randox are dedicated to supporting local quality produce, evidenced in our production of meats, jams, chutneys and apple juice straight from Dundarave Estate in Bushmills and CherryValley Estate in Antrim.

“The food and hospitality industry in Northern Ireland is among the best in the world and we are pleased to help showcase award-winning local producers on a national platform. The local community has played a significant role in the successes of Randox over the past number of years and we believe it is important to give the same support and encouragement back wherever we can.”

The Randox Northern Ireland Potato Festival will take place in the front car park of the Causeway Hotel at the Giant’s Causeway, but in the event of inclement weather, will proceed at an alternative location in the hotel grounds.

Festival Committee Chairman Michael McKillop, Glens of Antrim Potatoes Ltd, said;

“This year the committee has worked tirelessly to bring a bigger and better potato festival to the North Antrim coast on the site of the Giant’s Causeway.  We have more fun-filled events planned with loads of arts and crafts on site and fantastic local chefs doing cookery demos.  Along with a free open day to the Causeway Centre, it will be a great family day out.”

As well as Randox as the main sponsor, the festival has benefited from financial help from The National Trust, Glens of Antrim Potatoes, NI Regional Food Programme (DAERA), Jamison Potatoes, McCurdy Potatoes, Wilsons Country, Manor Fresh, Active Packaging, First Trust Bank and Food NI.

Mr McKillop continued;

“I would like to extend my thanks to the National Trust for their continued support. Every year the National Trust is a key partner and sponsor for the Potato Festival, not only opening up the Giant’s Causeway site and providing the perfect location but giving their staff to co-ordinate the activities on the day. They also coincide the festival with their free Community Open Day welcoming everyone to enjoy their Visitor Experience and award-winning guided tours for free, providing a great opportunity to showcase Northern Ireland’s heritage to local and international visitors while celebrating the legacy of John Clarke.”

*£10 raffle tickets to win a helicopter flight for 3 people, worth £270, can be purchased by contacting the Festival Committee, with the raffle being drawn on Festival Day itself.

Randox Charity Partners 2019/20 Announced

Global healthcare company Randox Laboratories has today announced Liverpool-based charity the Tim Cogley Cardiac Screening Foundation, located near its Liverpool Randox Health clinic,  and Townland Boxing Club, near its Crumlin headquarters in Northern Ireland, as its official charity partners for 2019/2020.

Randox staff in the UK and Ireland will be fundraising for these causes through a range of events and initiatives throughout the year, including individual staff fundraising activities and the company’s popular Christmas Raffle for staff in December.

Randox Founder and Managing Director, Dr. Peter FitzGerald, commented;

“We are delighted to partner with the Tim Cogley Cardiac Screening Foundation in Liverpool and Townland Boxing Club in Glenavy. Both are very worthy causes close to the hearts of those living near two of our health check clinics – Randox Health Liverpool in Exchange Station and Randox Health Crumlin in Northern Ireland.

“Our partnerships with each of these charities focus on the health and wellbeing, in particular, of young people. You are never too young to start caring about your health and thinking of your future wellbeing.

“Indeed, our research and development teams have found that signs of ill-health often appear in the body at an early age but symptoms may not appear until later in life. It is paramount that the health of young people is prioritised at the earliest stage and when preventable illnesses and conditions can be stopped in their tracks or more effectively managed.”

Frank Cogley, father of Tim and founder of the Tim Cogley Cardiac Screening Foundation, commented;

“The Tim Cogley Cardiac Screening Foundation is dedicated to providing free cardiac screenings and education for young adults in Merseyside and the Wirral. The essence of the charity, and its whole approach of reaching out to help others, reflects Tim’s character and, in that sense, keeps alive his driving force. I can’t imagine a legacy more in tune with the generous, kind and supportive person that was Tim.”

Tim Cogley, an apparently fit and healthy 34-year-old from Heswall, England, suffered a fatal heart attack in April 2017. Despite showing no symptoms, Tim had a 75% cholesterol blockage of the left descending coronary artery. The Tim Cogley Cardiac Screening Foundation was set up by family and friends in Tim’s memory to offer free heart screening to those aged 18 to 40 within the Merseyside area, an age range where little heart screening currently is offered.

Frank continued;

“We have enjoyed a close working relationship with Randox Health Liverpool since our inception in 2017 and are thrilled to have been chosen as one of the company’s staff charity partners.

“The money raised by Randox staff will help provide cardiac screenings and facilitate a range of educational programmes which, by sharing Tim’s story, will illustrate the need to be aware of key health indicators from a young age.

“Making young people aware of their vital signs, such as blood pressure, will go a long way in preventing future young deaths from preventable heart conditions, and we look forward to delivering this message with the help of staff from Randox Health.”

In addition to cardiac screening programmes, the Tim Cogley Cardiac Screening Foundation is committed to delivering positive, action-focused and life-changing educational sessions which focus on delivering information lifestyle changes which can have positive benefits for young people.

Randox Founder and Managing Director, Dr. Peter FitzGerald, said;

“The Tim Cogley Cardiac Screening Foundation has already made a difference to young people in the Liverpool area both with the detection of early cardiac issues through its free screening programme and in its education endeavours. The story of Tim Cogley is a tragic one of a life ended too soon. The courage and commitment of his family to create a positive legacy in his name is to be admired and we look forward to joining with them through this Randox staff charity partnership.”

Randox’s second charity partner, Townland Boxing Club in Glenavy, was founded in 2008 by a group of dedicated people interested in the sport of boxing and improving youth facilities in the area.

The amateur boxing club, which is a completely voluntary organisation, was opened with a purpose to give young people in the area a place to meet, form friendships and learn the discipline, respect and skill required to become an amateur boxer.

Thomas Quinn, head coach at Townland Boxing Club, said;

“Randox is a key employer in the area with tremendous influence and we look forward to partnering with them as we continue to bring boxing facilities and training to young people in the wider Glenavy area. From the admin staff to coaches, everyone here works on a voluntary basis and we rely on the generosity of others, such as Randox, to keep our services continuing for generations to come.”

Randox Founder and Managing Director, Dr. Peter FitzGerald, said;

“Randox’s global headquarters has been based in Crumlin since the company was founded in 1982. We are proud to hold longstanding relationships with the local community here and our new staff charity partnership with Townland Boxing Club in Glenavy signals our continued commitment to the wellbeing of Crumlin and the surrounding area.”

Causeway Chamber, in partnership with principle sponsor Randox Health, hosted the 2019 Causeway Coast and Glens Business Awards, which was held Friday 21st June at the Lodge Hotel, Coleraine. “It is a great honour to be here once again for the Business Awards for the Causeway Coast and Glens, a region with whom we have become closely engaged since opening the newest division of our multi-faceted company; Dundarave Estate in Bushmills. Dundarave’s collection of jams, chutneys, ciders and meats has proved very popular with both the local community and other businesses, together with whom we are able to demonstrate what Northern Ireland has to offer to a global business market.

“We are proud that through our sponsorship of this event, we can not only bring together the best local businesses, support one another and celebrate our collective achievements, but also encourage all those involved to proactively think about their health. For all of us, our health is our wealth, and indeed for the entrepreneurial finalists, many of whom are self-employed, their health is their livelihood. We might all usefully consider how we can live better for longer, to fully enjoy what life has to offer, in both our business and our personal lives. I must also say that we have been very impressed with the nominees of each category and the calibre of finalists, each of whom absolutely deserve their place in the Causeway Coast and Glens Business Awards. Congratulations to all the award winners.”

Sarah Travers who was delighted to once again host the event said;

“The Causeway Coast and Glens Borough is unique in its ability to offer a variety of locations for business development. The Chamber has truly embraced the diversity of the local business talents and rewarded each sector individually.”

Annette Deighan, Chamber Operations Manager added;

“Causeway Coast and Glens Business Awards would not have been possible without our businesses and continued support of all our sponsors. It is an honour to host these awards, to recognise the achievements and success in our region. It shows as a Borough we are continuing to excel and compete at a regional and national level.”

There were 18 awards comprising of many categories sponsored by individual companies. The judges were overwhelmed with the level of entries received which is a testament to the success of these biennial awards and the achievements of all businesses within the Borough. The awards highlighted that the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough is continuing to grow, compete and provide services at a local and global level. Congratulations to all the winners and finalists on the evening.

Randox and Ulster University team up to support athletes of the future

Randox has joined forces with Ulster University in a major university-wide sports sponsorship deal.

The investment will supply kit and equipment for 70 sports clubs across the university including basketball, GAA, hockey and soccer. Randox will also be the main sponsor of the Freshers Fayres across the four Ulster University campuses and the universities Colours Sports Awards.

Professor Alastair Adair Deputy Vice-Chancellor Ulster University said:

“Ulster University and Randox enjoy a longstanding partnership built around research, knowledge sharing, collaboration and student opportunity which reflects the leadership of both organisations in diagnostics and health research globally. We are very encouraged that one of our valued industry partners is now supporting us as we work to develop our students striving for success in the sporting world.”

Nigel Dobson, Head of Sport Services, Ulster University said:

“Ulster University is recognised as a leading university for sport on the island of Ireland, from our sporting successes to our academic excellence and world-leading research in physical activity and exercise science. This major sponsorship deal will enable us to invest in young and aspiring coaches by providing mentoring support and coach education opportunities for the coaches of the future. We look forward to working with the team at Randox as we enable the next generation of sporting stars to reach their full potential.”

Lyndsay Rodgerson Senior Recruitment Consultant, Randox Laboratories, said:

“We have worked closely with Ulster University for many years, enjoying a mutually beneficial relationship that has seen the development of a diverse range of industrial-academic opportunities.

“Our successful and ongoing partnership continues to evolve and this year alone has seen a Randox-sponsored GAA tour of China, the launch of the Randox-Ulster University-Industrial PhD Academy and the adoption of Ulster University’s Mind Your Mood initiative as Randox’s official charity partner. We are delighted that our collaboration with this renowned university has now grown to include a university-wide sports sponsorship which will continue to benefit students long in to the future.

“Randox is passionate about fostering talent – whether that be in sport or science – and about promoting health and wellbeing across the age spectrum, and we see the sponsorship as a brilliant opportunity to nurture the young sporting talents of Northern Ireland. There may be players amongst the ranks of Ulster University’s sports teams who join Randox as part of their placement year, or who take up a graduate position with us in the years to come, and we look forward to supporting these students as they thrive in both the sporting and academic spheres.”
