The Mpox qPCR Assay is a highly advanced diagnostic tool developed to address the challenges of detecting Mpox virus, a double-stranded DNA virus belonging to the Orthopoxvirus genus. Mpox has caused significant global outbreaks, with Clade II affecting 116 countries in 2022–2023, and Clade Ib declared a Public Health Emergency in 2024. The virus is transmitted through direct contact with lesions, contaminated objects, or sexual contact, posing a significant risk of rapid global spread.

Mpox Clade Specific qPCR Assay

This Mpox clade specific assay detects Mpox virus and differentiates between Clade I and Clade II viral subtypes in lesion swap specimens. One qPCR test can be used to determine which clade of the virus is causing the infection without the need for further reflex testing or DNA sequencing. Disease severity differs between both Clades, with Clade I having a higher case fatality rate. It can therefore be clinically beneficial to identify the Clade and also helps with contact tracing and epidemiology. Internal control included to monitor assay and sample quality through the entire workflow.
